Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy, also known as physical therapy, is a healthcare profession focused on identifying and maximizing quality of life and movement potential across promotion, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Physiotherapists use a variety of techniques, including therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, massage, heat or cold therapy, electrical stimulation, hydrotherapy, and assistive devices, to address impairments caused by injury, illness, or disability.
Chiropractic
Chiropractic is a healthcare profession focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine, and the effects of these disorders on the nervous system and general health.
Chiropractors use manual techniques, primarily spinal manipulation or adjustment, to correct misalignment and improve function, often incorporating exercise, lifestyle counseling, and other non-invasive therapies.
Massage Therapy
Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) is a regulated healthcare profession involving the manipulation of the body’s soft tissues—such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissues—to alleviate pain, improve mobility, and promote overall well-being.
The primary outcomes of RMT include pain reduction, improved joint mobility, enhanced circulation, increased lymphatic drainage, and reduced muscle tension.
Chiropody
Chiropody is the assessment, treatment, and prevention of diseases or disorders of the foot and ankle using therapeutic, surgical, orthotic, and palliative means. It is a specialized field focused on maintaining foot health, addressing issues such as corns, calluses, ingrown nails, fungal infections, diabetic foot care, and biomechanical problems like plantar fasciitis. Chiropodists are regulated healthcare professionals in Ontario who must complete government-approved education programs and pass a provincial board examination to practice. The term "chiropody" is the original title used in Ontario, while "podiatry" is the more widely recognized term used internationally, though both chiropodists and podiatrists in Ontario are regulated by the same College and can perform similar services, including prescribing medication and providing custom orthotics.
